When we released the first version of the Quiz in Recall, we weren't sure how our users would respond. The Product Hunt launch exceeded our expectations, earning us product of the day, week, and month. Quiz has since become one of our stickiest features, with an average of 70 questions answered per user per month.
Given the strong engagement, we decided to invest further, bringing more question types, more flexibility in your review schedule, and our most exciting addition yet:
shared quizzes.
Save any content into Recall: YouTube videos, podcasts, PDFs, articles, TikToks, or take your own rich text notes and head over to the quiz tab to get started.
Challenge Your Friends
Turn any quiz into a competition by sharing a challenge link. Here are a few that you can take for a spin now:
- History of AI - which truly humbled our co-founder Sanks - the results were shocking!
- What alcohol does to your body, brain, and health
- The quiz 2.0 tutorial! Let's see how much you gathered from the video.
- No sign-up requiredfor participants: anyone with the link can play.
- Live leaderboardranks everyone by score, with time as a tiebreaker.
- Challenge someone directlyby sharing your attempt link. They'll see your score as a target to beat.
7 Question Types
The old quiz was multiple choice only. Now, Recall supports
seven question types
to test different aspects of your understanding. You choose which types to include when generating questions, and you can also create any type manually.- Multiple Choice:Pick the correct answer from several options.
- True/False:Decide whether a statement is true or false.
- Fill in the Blank:Complete a sentence by selecting the missing word or phrase.
- Short Answer:Type the answer from memory with no hints. AI is not analyzing this answer right now; it's a match-based system. This will evolve in the future.
- Matching:Connect related items by drawing pairs.
- Ordering:Arrange items in the correct sequence.
- Flashcard:Flip a card and rate whether you knew the answer.
Custom quiz settings
When generating a set of questions, there are a lot more options to customize the actual quiz:
- Difficulty level:easy, medium, hard, or mixed.
- Include explanations:so you get a bit more context on the answer.
- Include hints:To get a bit of help when stuck.
Review Dashboard
A new dashboard gives you a complete view of your learning progress:
- Review schedule:See how many questions are Ready for Review, Due This Week, and coming Next Week.
- Streak calendar:Track your review consistency with a visual calendar.
- Activity chart:Daily review stats as a bar chart, filterable by time period.
- Memory stats:See how your questions are distributed across five knowledge stages (New, Learning, Practiced, Confident, Mastered).
- Memory progress:A stacked area chart showing how questions move through stages over time.
- Activity heatmap:A full-year GitHub-style contribution graph of your review history.
Questions Tab
A new Questions tab on the Review page lets you browse all your questions across all cards. This gives you a lot more flexibility in your review schedule. Head over to the Questions tab to:
- View all the questions in your review.
- Schedule / Unschedule them.
- Bulk delete them.
- Filter by tag and take a review on just a custom subset of questions.
- Filter by review status, tag, or search text.
Streaks
Build a lasting review habit with daily or weekly streaks:
- Choose your streak goal in Settings, this can be daily or weekly.
- Head over to the Recall review tab, and you can see your street calendar for more details on how you've performed.
Notifications
We have email notifications and push notifications coming soon. You'll be able to customize them according to your streak goal as well as your preferred time zone. We hope that this can encourage you to build a strong retention practice with Recall.
Timed Questions
Enable an optional countdown timer per question in Settings:
- A progress bar changes color from normal to yellow to red as time runs out.
- Auto-submits when time expires.
- Configurable from 10 to 120 seconds per question.
Question Management During Quizzes
Full control over questions without leaving the quiz session:
- Edit, delete, or schedule/unschedule questions mid-quiz.
- Click the study material link to open the source card for quick reference.
- Hints available on supported questions, with detailed explanations shown after answering.
Spaced Repetition with Knowledge Stages
Every question progresses through five stages: New, Learning, Practiced, Confident, and Mastered. Review intervals increase from 1 day up to 3 months as you demonstrate knowledge. Incorrect answers drop questions back to Learning for reinforcement.
Other Bug Fixes & Enhancements
Apart from the focus on Quiz 2.0, there were a couple of bug fixes and UI/UX improvements:
- iPad tag tree issues:Fixed various issues with the tag tree on iPad.
- AI actions in the notebook now respect your language setting:AI-generated content from the editor and backend endpoints now uses your configured language instead of defaulting to English.
- Extension: Sticky header:The browser extension header is now sticky, staying visible as you scroll.
- Extension: PDF error messaging for Firefox:Firefox users now see a clear error message when PDF processing isn't supported, instead of a silent failure.
- Referral verification:Fixed an issue where referrals weren't being verified at the correct time.
- Usage reset modal:Fixed the usage reset modal showing incorrectly for some users.
Get ready for a big update and a sneak peek of what's to come! We packed a lot into this release, all focused on making your Recall experience smoother and more intuitive.
Improved Organization with tag tree improvements:
If you've been frustrated with the lack of flexibility and customization of your tag tree (the left panel that shows all of the tags), then you are in for a treat!
Get all the details in our docs.
- Create tags anywhere in the tree- Create new tags without first needing to associate it with a Recall card. This way you can create your ideal structure and then add content to it later.
- Flexible sorting options- Sort your tags alphabetically, by created date, by updated date, or choosemanual modeto arrange them in your own custom order
- Faster performance for large knowledge bases- Updated the tag tree for speed, so it stays responsive even if you have thousands of cards.
- Edit tags inline- Rename tags directly in the tree with a single click.
- Bulk actions- Select multiple tags or cards (Cmd/Ctrl+click) to edit or delete them all at once, saving time when reorganizing.
- Expand/collapse all- Quickly expand or collapse the entire tag tree with one click to get an overview or focus on specific areas
- Improved drag & drop- Many UX improvements to how drag and drop works when rearranging tags and cards. It also now works much better on mobile.
- Filter by untagged items- Quickly filter on cards that haven't been organized yet
- Better mobile experience- Replaced long-press with a menu button for easier access to tag action
A significantly improved mobile sharing experience:
If you often found yourself needing to share a piece of content with the Recall mobile app twice, that was a huge frustration and something we were really excited to say has now been fixed. When sharing content to Recall, it should directly open up the app without requiring a double share. Additionally, we will continue to improve this experience so that you don't have such a long loading state, and you could close the app and continue about your day. More to come here.
Upload PDFs without selectable text with OCR processing:
If you've had PDFs that you've tried to upload to Recall in the past that previously didn't work, it's likely because it didn't have selectable text. We now have OCR processing - Optical Character Recognition that converts images of text, into readable searchable text.
What we support now:
- scanned-in documents like books, articles, etc.
- computer-generated text
Still to come:
- handwritten notes
- pictures of text (because they have blur, skewness, etc. that we don't handle)
Pick up where you left off with reading position tracking:
Never lose your place when reading in Recall. Recall now automatically remembers your position in the Reader and Notebook and shows a button to jump back to where you left off. This will work on the notebook and your Reader, including PDFs. You will see a little blue dot in the bottom right corner of these tabs, which will enable you to jump back to your last spot.
Beautiful link previews when sharing a Recall card:
When you share a Recall card (clicking the share icon in the top right corner of a card) it will now generate a link preview that contains an image, title and description when shared on social media, WhatsApp, Discord, or other apps.

Bug Fixes & enhancements
- Chat page performance- Fixed lag and slowdowns when chatting with your knowledge base.
- Extension unexpectedly saving cards- The extension no longer creates cards when navigating within single-page apps.
- Auto-save for when adding Wiki cards- Wiki cards created from the in-app add card menu now save automatically, so you don't accidentally forget to click save.
- Preserved tag hierarchy in markdown export- When you export cards to markdown, nested tags are now properly included in the markdown frontmatter (e.g., parent/child instead of just child)
- Better messaging for unsupported content- When you try to save content from a site that isn't fully supported, you'll now see a helpful message explaining why and a link to install the browser extension if it can help on that website.
- C and C++ syntax highlighting- Code blocks in the notebook editor now properly highlight C and C++ code
- Higher resolution website icons- Saved websites now display sharper, clearer icons.
- Mobile sharing opening the incorrect app- Fixed the bug where sharing content with Recall would sometimes open the wrong application.
- Notebook formatting preserved- Regenerating connections no longer strips formatting from your notebook notes
- Improved Markdown imports- Importing markdown files with empty blockquotes no longer causes errors
- Invalid image paste crash- Pasting malformed or corrupted images into the editor no longer crashes the app
- Multi-lingual tag creation- Tags now correctly match the language of your content, fixing an issue where non-English tag names weren't being created properly
The 2026 Roadmap

In 2026, we're focused on making each of those experiences best-in-class, without becoming bloated. This isn't just a feature update. It's Recall becoming the tool that changes how you engage with what you consume, helping you move from passive consumption to active learning, and bringing back the joy of learning.
Here are the first few highlights, with all the details in our docs:

This release is a huge step for Recall. We started Recall with a focus on the content you consume: summarizing, saving, and organizing organizing YouTube videos, podcasts, TikToks, articles and PDFs. Now we're expanding to the content you create. While you've always been able to take notes in Recall's notebook tab, the editor was basic.
Today, we're launching a major upgrade with
a new block-style editor
.Why this matters:
Recall is now a space where your saved content and personal notes work together. Study notes with complex equations. Meeting notes. Daily journals. Project planning docs. All in one place, with AI that understands the full picture. Chat with your notes, summarize them, generate quizzes, and automatically connect ideas across everything you've saved and written.Check out this video where co-founder Sankari and the engineer who built the editor Mason do a demo.
Quick heads up: This is a raw, unscripted demo with some lag and quality issues. We wanted to get this out quickly. Hope you enjoy it!
Block-Style Editor
A new block-based note-taking system where each piece of content is an individual, movable unit.

to create connections, but that now opens the rich text editor menu. **To create connections from the notebook, use [[
instead.**Available block types:
Basic blocks:
- Text blocks
- Six heading levels (H1-H6)
- Quotes and callouts

Organization:
- Auto-generated table of contents (based on headings)
- Collapsible toggle sections
Advanced blocks:
- Images
- Tables with resizable columns/rows and cell background colors
- Code blocks with syntax highlighting (supports Bash, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, JSON, Markdown, Python, Shell, TypeScript)
- LaTeX equations (inline and block-level)
Editor Access Points
The editor is available in:

Improved Readability
There is a lot more to come to enhance the reader experience. We want reading to feel simple and clean, this is a first step.
- Global Font Size Adjustment:Customize text size across Reader, Notebook, Chat, Quiz, and Graph View. Adjust this in your settings or on a card in the top right corner of the screen.
